About SetPrep

SetPrep is a Mac desktop app for DJs that uses AI to plan a full mix from your music library — and places the cue points, loops, colour codes and ratings on every track, ready to import into your DJ software. Currently exports to Rekordbox; Serato and Traktor support coming soon.

It's the only AI mix planning tool that puts hot cues, memory cues, and loop points directly on every track, ready to play. Competitors generate setlists; SetPrep ships the working mix — and the only one that pairs an LLM with smart playlists in plain English so DJs can organise their entire mix history with natural-language rules.

SetPrep beta launching May 2026 on Mac. Invite-gated open signup; downloads released to applicants in batches. Free tier (3 mixes / month) needs no card; Pro is £5.99/month or £59.99/year (~17% saving) via Polar.

Founding story

SetPrep started with a frustration any working DJ knows: the prep eats the night. You buy 30 new tracks, you've got a club slot Friday, and somewhere in the gap is hours of Rekordbox: load the tracks, listen for the drop, set hot cues, set memory cues, drag the loop point, colour code by energy, write the comment field, plan the order. Then test it. Then re-do half of it.

The promise of an AI tool that could do all of that — not just spit out a tracklist, but actually place the cue points and write the colour codes — felt obvious. Nobody was building it. So we did.

SetPrep reads your Rekordbox library directly (no XML export gymnastics), analyses every track for BPM, key, drop position, and structure, then asks the AI to plan the mix in the style you pick — Long Blend like Charlotte de Witte, Power Block like Chris Lake, Narrative like Anyma. The AI returns the order, the cue-in points, the cue-out points, the loops, the transition notes — plus a plain-English explanation of why every track is there. SetPrep snaps everything to the nearest phrase boundary, writes it back to Rekordbox, and you walk into the gig with a fully prepped set you actually understand.

Quotable lines

Pre-written lines you can lift directly. Attribute to "Chris Seller, founder, SetPrep" unless otherwise specified.

"Every other AI DJ tool stops at the tracklist. The work is in the cue points — that's where the hours go. SetPrep is the first tool that actually finishes the job." Chris Seller, founder, SetPrep
"I built SetPrep because I was burning Friday afternoons placing hot cues for the Friday night gig. The AI part is the headline, but the real innovation is the integration — the cues end up in your Rekordbox library, not in a CSV download." Chris Seller, founder, SetPrep
"The AI is doing the kind of work that used to need a human DJ ear — hearing the build, finding the drop, deciding when to mix in. We're not replacing that taste. We're saving you the hours of mechanical work that have nothing to do with taste." Chris Seller, founder, SetPrep
"Smart playlists in plain English — type 'my high-energy tech house from this month' and your library organises itself around it. No DJ tool we know of pairs an LLM with library organisation. That's the moat." Chris Seller, founder, SetPrep
"Other AI tools hand you a tracklist. SetPrep tells you why every track is there, so you're learning the craft while you prep. The mix is one output. The DJ getting sharper is the other." Chris Seller, founder, SetPrep

Founder bio

Chris Seller is a UK-based sales leader, DJ, and producer. He built SetPrep after realising he was spending more time placing hot cues in Rekordbox than actually playing music. By day he leads the sales team at a software company; by night he plays tech house and Power Block sets on a Pioneer DDJ-400. Chris has been DJing since his university years and producing since 2024.
